I kept my eyes fixed on my lap even when he took the game controller from my hand. He sat next to me and waited. I wanted to look at him but I knew I wouldn't be able to keep my composure. "Emerald, you can't do everything by yourself. It's okay to ask for help." I picked at the chipped nail polish on my fingernails and remained quiet. I knew what he was saying was coming from a genuine place but I couldn't help but be opposed to the idea. As if he read into my thoughts, he continued. "It doesn't have to be me. And I know I can never be him, which is okay. I just want you to be happy." My eyes met his and even with my visions blurred, I could see the soft smile on his face. "Thank you," I told him softly. "Wow, you finally appreciate me and no one is around to hear it." I rolled up eyes, "I will retract my statement." I announced while wiping away the tears. He had managed to change the atmosphere in a matter of seconds. I was truly grateful to have him in my life. And even though we would never work together, we still loved and cared for each other. "Alright, alright," he raised his hands to show defeat, "I'll take what I can get." -------------------- Emerald is a highschool student who is trying her best to power through the last year of school.
