What she does know is that her home life is not so great. She is constantly being screamed at by her parents, no matter what she does. To them, everything she does is wrong, and Lillian believes them. She takes out her frustrations on herself by cutting, the only coping mechanism that has worked for her. It makes her feel free and lifeless. It drowns out the world around her, leaving Lillian in her own little place: her happy place. When Lillian begins senior year, it starts off as normal as ever. With minimal, easy classes, lenient teachers, and laid back students, she begins to become comfortable. That is until Mr. Matthews comes in, the new psychology teacher, and that’s when her life takes an unexpected turn.
