Our story takes place in a society governed by The Code, a charter detailing the operation of the New World Civilization, humanity's last known outpost since leaving Earth over 1500 years ago. The Ark that preserved humanity's existence landed on the most ideal planet known to 21st century man, Novum Initium. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the planet was too dangerous to be inhabited, and so life is confined to the massive ship that delivered humanity. Though there is plenty of room for the New World Civilization to exist within The Ark, population growth is strictly controlled to preserve the way of life defined in The Code. Novum Initium's population is created in the labs of the Department of Education. Clones programmed with desirable genetics and conditioned to conform and obey without question. The New World Civilization thrives on the labor of its majority Working Class while providing lives of buoyant leisure to those who have earned Ascension. The caste system sets the Working Class to labor in exchange for Work-Force, the currency of the New World Civilization. While the activities of life expel Life-Force, the Work-Force earned can be exchanged for molecular maintenance, renewing the bodies of Citizens who can afford it, allowing them to continue working towards Ascension. Once enough Work-Force is accrued, a Citizen can purchase Ascension into the Leisure Class, where the work is easy and the perks are plentiful. It is here that the instigator of our story, Frank, resides after working his way up over a number of lifetimes.
