Addie thought life was normal, or at least as normal as it could be.
When she was ten, her father left and her mom struggled being a single parent. By the age of twelve, she lost her to suicide.
Addie didn't fit in the world anymore and she didn't know what she was. She felt invisible, but that didn't make her a superhero.

Evan Cross, her uncle, took her in after her mom's death, even though he was still struggling to process the disappearance of his wife.

He tries to help track down his brother for Addie's sake to no avail.
Both he and Evan's wife had fallen off the face of the Earth. Evan and Addie were falling too, struggling to see life in this new light.
That's when the anomalies happened.
