Zeref told Natsu that he was Natsu's elder brother when he was a boy after Natsu came back. Natsu believing him decided that he wanted to be like his Big Brother.

After many years Zeref brought back his parents. Zeref told Natsu about their parents being alive made Natsu excited to meet them.
