Seventeen-year-old Samantha Tucker is a city girl from New York. She's always been invisible and forgettable, keeping mostly to herself except to play violin in the school band. When military science goes terribly wrong, Halos take over every previously recognizable piece of civilization until there is nothing left. Sam is left to search for her family, including her deaf, autistic brother and her military father. After learning to survive and fend for herself, Sam sets out on a most dangerous journey despite the fear that threatens to overcome her every day.
