Author's Note

This story is not a happy one. It is a dreadful tale of dastardly mishaps, dangerous sea animals, and daunting adventures. This is the terrible tale of Violet, Klaus, and Sunny Baudelaire, as well as their one-year-old adopted sister, Beatrice Snicket-Baudelaire. If you wish to read happy stories with happy endings and happy middles, do not read this book. If death, danger, and terrible misfortunes bring you joy, you still should not read this book, as it will darken your soul and make you feel dreadfully melancholy.
