Part One

I leap over a log, sprinting through the dense forest. I reach out, latching on to a tree trunk. I use the momentum to turn sharply to the right, stumbling from the force, but not daring to slow my mad dash.
Risking a glance over my shoulder, I see them closing in, circling me.
My breathing is ragged, and I push myself faster, barely noticing the stinging kisses of the low hanging branches.
Tears fall from my eyes, but I ignore them, forcing down my despair. I cough, stumbling a few steps.
I look over my shoulder again, missing the fallen tree a few feet ahead.
I trip over the fallen log, flying a few feet before rolling along the forest ground, feeling the twigs scratching my skin. My back slams against a tree, and I hear the wet thud, and I cry out at the pain that floods my body.
Darkness slams into me, but I desperately force it back, trying and failing to get back to my feet, to run. I scream as they come into view, limping up to me slowly.
I push myself up, but I collapse, that darkness pushing down on me, pinning me against the ground.
I know at that moment that I'm done, that it's over. I'm over.
One of them leans over me, and I can taste it's breath, like rot and decay. Fear like nothing I have ever felt numbs me, freezes me.
I flail my arms and legs, but it grabs my left arm, clamping it's yellow, rotting teeth down on my scratched, bruised skin.
I scream, my high pitched wail going unnoticed.
Finally, I give into the darkness, my body going limp.
The last thing I see before my eyes close is the zombie stand, watching me blankly, it's gaze unfeeling, just as I know mine would soon be.
