Thomas Shelby had been best friends with Elizabeth Dubois since they were children. They were inseparable from the first day they met, always together running around the streets of Birmingham. As they aged they only seemed to grow closer. Their relationship matured and became something more intimate. Tommy asked Elizabeth to be his girlfriend when they were teenagers and she accepted without a second thought. Elizabeth and Tommy were happy together and everything was perfect until the First World War began. Tommy decided to join the army, he wanted to fight for his country. Tommy would always remember the look of fear and sadness on Elizabeth's face when he told her. The way she sobbed into his shoulder and begged him not to go. Thomas proposed to her that night, he told her that he didn't want to die without marrying the girl of his dreams. They had a small wedding the next day, the only guests being his siblings, his aunt and her parents. They did not need a big wedding, they only needed each other. The night before his deployment was the worst. Elizabeth was trying her hardest not to fall apart but Tommy knew her too well. Elizabeth was there to see him off on the day of his deployment. She remained strong until the time for Tommy to leave finally came. Elizabeth sobbed, her entire body shaking as she cried. Thomas hugged her as tightly as he could, attempting to reassure her even though he knew it wouldn't work. Elizabeth pressed a passionate kiss to his lips, channeling all the love she has ever felt for him into this one small kiss. When she pulled away she told him that she loved him and made him promise to write her. Then she let him go. Tommy wrote every day until he finally came home. The war had changed Tommy, he was closed off and cold, having horrible nightmares almost every night. But despite everything, Elizabeth still loved him. Tommy was her husband and Elizabeth would do whatever she could to make sure he understood how much he meant to her.
