The fire raged around us, the flames licking at whatever it could find; the heat was unbearable. It was unlike anything that I had ever experienced, and I dare I say, I believed that I lived an eventful life where Lady Luck sided against me. Smoke billowed out of broken windows, glass littering the ground. It was thick and intoxicating, and it felt difficult to breathe, like my lungs were being squeezed by a pair of hands adorned in iron gauntlets covered in spikes. My throat was raw and it felt as if I had swallowed rocks. My voice was hoarse from all of the hollering that I had been doing---I had been calling her name, but she was nowhere to be found in the hell that Qecia had morphed into in a matter of hours. My legs felt weak and my heart weighed heavily in my chest. My head was swimming, and my stomach was churning. My eyes burned. Was this it? Was this to be my fate? Am I to truly fall to an enemy so powerful, so ruthless, that had an entire damned army obliterated in a single day? My mind was set on two things: that I was going to die, but that I also needed to stand up and fight. I needed to raise my sword and defend my home with everything that I had, but I wondered how I could do such a thing while feeling utterly useless. It was only a matter of time until they pulled the beast thought to only live through legend back and invade themselves while the people of Qecia were at their weakest.
