Everyone hates getting needles. They hurt for just a second, but then, the pain is gone. Stacy's been given so many shots and needles, she can't feel them at all. Or any touch in general, painful or not. Stacy's been locked in a facility all her life. She doesn't know who her parents are, doesn't even know if she has parents. She has no friends, no family, not even an imaginary friend, if she even knew what imagination meant. It's the day of her fourteenth birthday and her special and only gift this year is a radio that the lab says is certainly broken. To never try and use it. To never fix it. To never turn it on. She did just that and hears the first teenage voice she's ever heard in her life. "Oh my god... It's finally working."
