Description
On Planet Horror, legendary monsters known as Fiends prey upon Folk. Only frighteners possess the knowledge and equipment needed to scare away Fiends. Islo Toe lives in Haven, the only city protected from Planet Horror's ferocious, Folk-eating Fiends by a gargantuan cage. On Islo's fifteenth unhappy birthday, he receives his first frightening kit. Like his Pa and Grapa before him, Islo is a frightener. While Islo is stocking up after a successful first frightening mission, the bewitching owner of a Fiend frightening supply store slips into a trance and babbles a prophetic riddle, claiming that Islo is destined to become a Fiend whisperer, unifier of Folk and Fiend. At first, Islo scoffs at the idea. Fiends are dumb, unfeeling monsters who prey on folk for no reason other than bloodlust. There's no way Folk and Fiend can ever get along. But there are reasons why Fiends attack Folk, and the more I-lo learns, the less sure he is who the monsters really are. But when the different species of Fiend start collaborating to attack the Folks' cities, and the frighteners discover a devastating, Fiend-slaughtering weapon, forging a truce between Horror's warring inhabitants could be impossible.
