January, 1986: the start of a year thrumming with promise, hope, and change-for everyone, it seems, but two. Tulsi Dulari is a frazzled recluse struggling to stay afloat after the recent loss of her medical school scholarship. Conversely, charismatic, smart-mouthed Simon Ganfrey has been coddled since birth: the only thing he has ever wanted for is a pair of proper lungs and a heart without scar tissue. However, when Tulsi takes a reception job at a local hospital, their worlds are suddenly thrust together a little too close for comfort. Amongst bickering, road maps, collect calls, and a great many letters, they are swept into a journey towards a future they never knew existed, all crammed into the confines of a rusty, indomitable Volkswagen Beetle.
