The first book chronicling the evolution of an East Vancouver gangster. At 12 years old, Denny is convinced he is falling victim to the madness that runs in his family, experiencing dissociative symptoms and feeling apart from the world around him. When he is exiled to his Grandma's house for the summer of 1959, Denny discovers a whole new world. First; his Grandma is a bootlegger, second; he meets Frankie - another boy who thinks he might be crazy due to his 'bad thoughts' and who plans to become a gangster when he grows up, and third; Denny falls in love. But the biggest discovery that Denny makes is that while he is committing crimes, he feels alive and clear minded.
