When Dipper makes a deal with Bill, to save all of his friends, family and the whole town, he becomes Cipher's human pet. He loses his memories of emotion, and part of his sanity, in the process, leaving his family behind and becoming loyal to Bill. This takes place during Weirdmaggedon when Bill is about to win and everyone loses hope. Specifically, near the end of the last episode when they were thinking of a plan (I can't remember what part it is. I haven't watched the show in AGES). Instead of coming up with one, Bill comes to Dipper. This happens at the beginning of the first chapter so don't think I'm spoiling anything.
