What if humans evolved into entirely separate sub-species? How different would the world be?

Engarde is trapped in chains. In fact, he's been a prisoner of the Colosseum for countless years now - he's a gladiator, no more than a slave condemned to a life fighting for survival for the entertainment of thousands-strong crowds. And Engarde is not alone in his suffering, either.
When a new fighter appears in the ring, Engarde finds himself wedged in a conflict of raging emotions. He begins to question his purpose, his existence - and perhaps most dangerous of all, he begins to contemplate a life beyond slavery...
