At birth, everyone is given a necklace. Each necklace has a one of a kind design with a special stone. The design matches together with someone else's and the stone glows when you see them for the first few times. That person is your soulmate. Dan has a necklace that he has given up on. He feels as if it is fake so he keeps it hidden from the world. He always has it with him, but it isn't around his neck like everyone else.
