They met by a twist of fate when the boat Levi was on crashed on an unexpected rock and sank to the bottom of the sea. Levi fight for his life until he lose consciousness with a last thought; "I don't want to die...".

When he regain his senses, he is on a beach of almost white sand with a boy leaning over him, over his head to be more exact. Levi is surprised but has no will left in him to even talk. He simply mumbles before loosing consciousness once again a weak "Thank you..." to the figure of the boy.
