Trust no one... Plagued by ghosts and secrets, Artemis Avery had learned at a young age not to trust anyone. Embers, commonly called "witches" in the mortal world, lived in hiding, including Artemis and her family. They lived normal, human lives with the exception of an annual gathering of all Embers. Fearing another bloody witch-hunt, the Embers live as humans, living in their cities and towns, posing as one of them. But no human could control any beast with their mind or change appearance at will. Artemis trusted no one.
