Mamie Burke is new to Birmingham. Originally from Cork, Ireland, she fled to Birmingham from what she explains "domestic problems" with her ex-husband. But that only seems to be half of the story. When she unexpectedly meets Michael Gray one evening, she finds herself unexpectedly involved with her new boss's family, the Shelby family. Tommy recognizes her though, from a year ago. He knows she might bring trouble.

Now his newly elected secretary as he works in Parliament, Mamie uses all the energy she has to keep her past covered. That's if Polly doesn't get to the end of it first.
