Description
Hathley Grammar is a picturesque boarding school in Adelaide and a whole world away from Molly Hall's rather poor home. Her elation at having won a scholarship to Hathley Grammar is dashed by Harry Crofte, who considers it his personal mission to undermine her academic eligibility--because she is Indigenous. However, underneath the calm surface, Molly Hall and Harry Crofte are simply two young Australians who are hurting in many ways. As they trudge through their final years of education, they are forced to confront the history of the nation and the never-ending effects of the past on the present. What does it mean to be Australian? Is life ultimately a lighted path to a "dusty death"? And what does it even mean to be educated? These final years may be a trudge, and a slow-paced tale,--but certainly one that needs to be read to discover yet another story of Hathley Grammar which challenges, rather than ignores, the unsettling truth behind Australian identity.
