Katie Lotar does not have an easy life by any means. At the age of nine she does most of the work around the house, her father is an alcoholic, and an abuser. It's hard for her to stand on her own two feet. Her mother is no help, she might care about Katie, but cowers in fear behind the shadow of her father.
