Chapter One---The News

They wouldn't give up hope! They would fight until the end!
The mine was closing--the only industry in the remote mountain community of Pine Lake. Without it, the town, as well as the way of life of its residents, faces extinction. Annie Clifford, a housewife and mother, is as overwhelmed as the rest upon hearing the news. But they can't give in and accept defeat, can they? They can't lose the town they love, or the hopes and dreams for their children. Annie rallies the other women of Pine Lake to fight the tide. Even so, things look bleak. Sometimes, fighting a losing battle is still worth it...and sometimes, the battle isn't really lost.
