Lemony Snicket did have a long lost child he had with a stranger the night Beatrice broke his heart. He knew of her and where she was but he didn't plan on taken her with him. He knew after the death of the strange lady he encountered would have their daughter placed with someone they trusted. And that was with a banker who gave her to the lady who broke her fathers heart. She knew of him she's read letters from him. She hated Beatrice but she learned to cope as she took her in. But she held a grudge.
