Chapter One: The Prodigal Daughter

In the third volume of Patriots, Liza Byers has experienced the unthinkable in New York City. Her experiences have left her mentally scarred and seemingly descending into madness, much to the dismay of her parents. However, she still has a job to do: coax the secrets out of British officers with the power of charm and seduction. After fleeing her hometown once again with the help of her friend Jack Maris, she proves herself to have the useful skill of shooting, something Major Benjamin Tallmadge decides to utilize. She is cast fully into the experience of spying on multiple levels, including taking music lessons from the dashing and charming John Andre. She is supposed to take advantage of her new connections, but it is increasingly harder as she finds herself developing feelings for them. On top of this, it conflicts with her affection for her beloved Jack, who grows increasingly distrustful of her assignments. Zeb becomes more defensive and jealous towards her new romance with the man he sees as unfit for her, and Isaac seems to be wavering in his calculated romance with the heiress Margarita Schuyler. Is there even time for love in the midst of a seemingly impossible war? Perhaps it is the only thing that can keep the war going.
