Prologue

After surviving a village raid where she was taken away from her family, six year old Kaitlynn was forced to work as a servant in the palace of King Stephen of Thalia. Now 18 years old, Kaitlynn is determined to make a life for herself, whether that means escaping the palace, or finding a reason to stay. When the only thing keeping her there at all is the young Prince Erik; the couple of hours of her day spent with him being worth everything else she suffers throughout the day. Is their feeble friendship too fragile to last the tests of time, politics, betrayal and the King? Will they turn on one another completely? Or could their feeble friendship even be anything more than that?
