But the foolish men, who had been struck by magic and so feared it, also feared the Magi, and the ones who had joined the man of no aoul. For fear of the magic commanders becoming too powerful, they condemned them under the name of Notch, putting them under lock and collar and forcing them to the lowest of beings, worth nothing but a handful of shillings.

And so, the Magi became slaves. And they were loved by none.
