Myron is sorry the first time he hits Arleen. He didn't mean it. He promises it won't happen again, he was provoked, angry.
Arleen is desperate to be a better wife. After all, it's her fault that Myron hit her, she deserved it.

However, Arleen quickly becomes exhausted by Myron's constant mood swings and vicious temper. His endless expectations and demands are unbearable.
