I felt lost. My will felt shattered - I felt like a house that had imploded on itself. "But why? Why are we here? Maybe he needed to escape. In his situation, what could possibly not make death seem like an option?"
He looked me square in the eye, and said, his voice brimming with confidence, "We are here to drink beer. We are here to scream defiance at the opposing masses. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will fear to take us."
And I knew he was right. And I loved him wholly for it.
