I wish I Listened

As I lie in the white medical bed, the railings up, I wonder when Nurse Dolly will come in with my coffee. I'm allowed one simple request every morning. They don't even ask me anymore as it's always the same thing, coffee with milk and four sugar cubes. Nurse Dolly asks me every time why I drink this wretched liquid as its bad for my mental health, even when she gets the same answer of silence every time. I'll never tell them why I drink this stuff because if they find out that it reminds me of before, when summers were long and full of freedom, when I had no worries, when life was simpler, they'll stop bringing it to me and I wouldn't be able to remember life back then.
