prologue

"I paused, over the thump of the music, I swore I could hear something that resembled whimpering. Without much of a thought, I followed the sound. Maybe a dog was hurt?

It was coming from the alleyway next to the club. Quietly, I walked over, hoping my shoes wouldn't make a sound. I peeked into the dark space occupied by the alleyway.

It wasn't a hurt dog."
