He was beautiful like the night. But not midnight. He was beautiful like four in the morning, the window opened as you leaned out smoking your last cigarette. The air crisp and fresh. Each drag of the cancer stick between your finger a burning pleasure that made you sigh in contentment. He was beautiful like that. He was ugly too though. But not like a scar. He was ugly like a derailed train that's crashed off it's tracks into an overpopulated city. Debris scattered around the area, people screaming in fear and agony. Countless dead, and toxins leaking into the storm drains, tainting the water that was recycled for millions. He was ugly like that. And I loved him. It never occurred to me not to love him. Loving him was like walking into an ocean. The waves tapped against you, ever so gently, coaxing you deeper and then all of the sudden they snagged your feet.
