Description

"Alright students, please quickly write something about yourself." 'My name is Layla Ann Campbell.' I wrote. 'I'm fourteen years old. I have autism.' Layla Campbell is a student at Northwest High School. She likes playing video games, playing outside, and writing poetry; But she is not an ordinary kid. Layla has minor autism, which affects the way she's treated in public, at school, and even at home. She wants people to treat her like everyone else, but she knows that no one will. Even her mother treats her more like she's a child than a 14-year-old. It's Layla's first month in high school, but it's already tough. She's in the "Special Needs Program," where she's put in a different classroom than her peers and taught things she learned two years ago in grade seven. She feels so lonely and different until she meets Dylan Marie Connor for the first time. Dylan shows her that she is more than what she was diagnosed with, and they become closer than Layla has ever been with anyone else before.
