She's a badass living in her own little world. She lost her family, leaving her on her own. She doesn't do well with others. Her first bad impression on the Winchesters was when she saved the king of Hell.

But just because she made a deal with the king of Hell does not mean they didn't have their eyes on her. The Winchesters knew of her and how dangerous she was, but that's not what came into Dean's mind when he first got beaten up by her.
