When Em's life is turned upside-down by her mad uncle, she doesn't think life could get any worse - but then her small family of refugees is captured by the Alcunati, a secretive race inhabiting the heart of the wilderness itself.

Left alone after escaping, Em must learn to fend for herself in the lonely, treacherous expanse of immeasurable wilderness...
