Prologue

"Who says I cannot be the fair princess this land wants and the brazen knight this land needs?"

In the kingdom of Zortia lives a princess with the steely heart of a warrior. Princess Serilda is bored to tears of pretty dresses and the annoying gossip of court. Stifled in the palace, she finds a way to be herself and also fulfill her obligations as a princess.

With her brother sitting the throne as the King of Zortia, she is able to traverse her kingdom, free from the burden of the crown. By day she journeys her kingdom as the rough knight Raxia, helping those she can and slaying burdensome monsters who dare tread on Zortia's soil.

But as the curtain of dusk falls, she parades her palace as the fair princess Serilda, beloved of her people, the blushing maiden who sits beside her brother and says nothing. A delightful princess to all who meet her.

On her eighteenth birthday, her life is altered when her ball is abruptly interrupted by a mysterious man claiming that she is now his property, all because of a bargain her brother struck many years ago.

Confused and hurt, she can do nothing to change the fact that she is bound to the man for life because of her brother's insatiable greed. Little does she know that her brother's debtor is the prince of the Elven kingdom, Ellesmere. Prince Eralys, her handsome captor, takes her back to his land, where she learns that she needn't live two lives anymore. In the land of the elves, being a princess and a fighter are one in the same.

But in a foreign kingdom, a foreign princess has few allies. It is up to her to find those who she can trust and decide her own fate, regardless of her wavering heart.
