Prologue

"Why are you like this? Who hurt you?" He questioned, his eyes turning dark as he stared into mine. His voice was harsh, but not accusing. "We were just trying to do something nice for you."

"Oh my 7th birthday, I got a beating as a gift. And on my 8th, my mother died. Let's just say birthday's aren't my thing." I spat, pushing him with all my might. With little resistance, he moved aside as I stormed out of the room.

Tears flooded my eyes as the memories I had tried so hard to repress washed back over me. It was like I was spiraling down into Alice's rabbit hole.
