Dreampunk is a sci-fi/fantasy subgenre that asks the question "Is this real?" and then follows up with "What does that even mean anyway?" Alice in Wonderland would be the prototypical example, but any anti-authoritarian investigation into the nature of dreams, reality, the self, and the universe might qualify. Good examples include the works of Philip K. Dick, Haruki Murakami, and Neil Gaiman. The aesthetic is somewhere in the neighborhood of The Sandman, Scott Pilgrim, and Over the Garden Wall. Join the conversation to help decide what "dreampunk" will become. It is, after all, up to us.
