When she passed away, Lihua was left with her grandmother's journals, in which she finds the country's greatest secret: the key to Paradise. Vampires are told that Paradise is a place where humans will be trapped, their blood free for the taking. Humans are told it is a place where their blood will poison vampires, destroying the creatures. Only one of them is right, and Lihua has to figure it out before a border war drives out one of her families: the human circus performers, or the vampires she's come to trust.
