Linnea is a slave of Lush. Sure, they use other words to describe the citizens of Barren, laborer, Harvester, so on, so forth. But when one watches a Bot kill a boy for sitting down in the endless desert, one begins to doubt the benevolence of Lush.

Every five years, a single Barren citizen is chosen to go to Lush, to become a Servant to one of the elite. They are given a chance to grow, and even earn their own money...When Linnea is chosen against her will, her life is changed forever. Will she be able to hold on to who she is? Will she want to?
