"Why do you look as if you're waiting for me to strike you?" Zayne asked softly. My heart was racing. Was this a trick? Chaz loved tricks like this, making me feel safe before unleashing his rage. I tensed, wondering if it was about to come. "Wh-why aren't you?" I asked meekly. His eyes were intent as they looked into my own. "Arianna...I would never hurt you like that." My nose crinkled in confusion. "But I...I hurt you. Aren't you going to punish me?" His fingers continued to caress my cheek soothingly as he looked upon me sympathetically. "I can't even imagine what you must have gone through. I will never let anyone punish you again." Growing up a used and abused orphan, Arianna trusted no one. She had taken to the streets, stealing for a living under the guidance of her collector. But when she steals from him, his murderous rage sends her running...right into a different world. Wrapped up in new surroundings, she finds a new problem: an evil sorceress who wants her dead and Zayne; the man who vowed to protect her.
