Mara Ridley believes in angels.
When she was six year's old her father crashed their car taking her home from school. A piece of glass went flying and hit her near the heart, there is no doubt she should have died. But, from that day, Mara claims an angel kissed her better.
That was the last time she was in school, the last time her father ever drove, and the last time she saw angel.

Now, nearly ten years later, Mara is searching for the one who saved her. She takes pictures of everything, benches, people, birds, the sky, just hoping one day she will find her angel. But, when she is attacked by a demon in her own room, she knows she's a part of a world unlike any other.

Then she meets the dangerous, demon hunter Aiden, who claims to work alone, but always has someone backing him up. Not only that, but he thinks Mara isn't even fully human. Now, they must struggle with forbidden feelings and fighting for survival.

In the midst of a war, Mara is the winning game piece for either side.
