Mary Stuart's mother, Marie de Guise, sent her daughter to France at the age of six to wed Francis, the Dauphin, and secure an alliance with the nation.
After Francis died, his mother, Catherine de Medici, decided Mary was no longer welcome in France, sending the eighteen year old back to Scotland.
On August 19th she left Calais and arived in Leith, a district to the north of Edinburgh where her half brother James (regent after the death of Marie de Guise) awaited her.
During the period of time between her arrival in Scotland and her beheading, she remaried, had a baby and supressed countless religious uprisings.
This book follows the young queen through that period of years and reveals the many plots that unfolded in the scottish court.
