The two oldest brothers are away on a practice run with their father in the farm and won't be back until it's over. Casey and April are too busy with school to come and visit the lair. That leaves the two youngest brothers, Michelangelo and Donatello.
That's OK because while one is an immature the other isn't. The father trusts them enough to leave them to keep the city safe.
The two are best friends.
