Shit hit the fan fairly quickly. Rick and a group of survivors go through hell and back. He'd do anything for his people. His family. When faced with temptation he takes the bait and throws himself in a volcano of feelings and thoughts.
Ava's to blame for a lot of that but love makes you do anything and everything.
