"Last night, when we were ducking into doorways... we weren't both hiding from the Interpreters, were we?" Words fail me again, so I just nod slowly. She turns back to the fountain. "Why don't you want them to see me?" I hesitate, not sure how to respond. She sighs, "It's because I'm not supposed to know about any of this, right? I'm supposed to be asleep right now." I let out a breath of air I hadn't realized I was holding. "I'm sorry, Andie. Walkers are forbidden from awakening Sleepers. It was an accident." Softly she replies, "What would happen if they found me?" I grit my teeth, "Nothing. Nothing you need to worry about, I promise. The rule is mine to break, not yours." Andie nods. "Okay, Devin. So we can never let them see me?" "No. But don't worry, I'll make sure that never happens." ........ Nearly three years ago, Devin Hale's vision of shattered glass and flashing sirens faded into darkness. He awakened in Dream- a world where dreams are made real. The city constantly shifts and pulls with the whims of hapless Sleepers lost in their own dreams. Devin and the other comatose, the Walkers, are forced to wear tracking bracelets and are given limited hours to wander the city's ever-changing streets. Devin uses every means necessary to push against the rules of this strict society, except for the most important one of all- never awaken a Sleeper. That is, until one night, mid-sleep, Andie Rhodes finds herself thrown awake in Dream. With Devin as a guide, she begins to walk a thin line- passing night after night exploring more of this fantastic world, all the while avoiding being found at all costs. Though prolonged time in Dream breeds consequences as Andie begins to lose her tether to the real world. Devin must infiltrate the society he hates to find a way to send the girl he's falling in love with away forever, or risk her being trapped with him in this never ending dream.
