In the Realm - a universe that runs parallel to us - all 13 Kingdoms have a Shaper with special powers. All except Aragonia, who was abandoned by their Shaper fifteen years ago, and have since developed tough mettle and fiercely-protected independence. Ashling is sole heir to the Kingdom of Aragonia. Her engagement to a notorious playboy will bring Aragonia needed stability in face of possible war. It doesn't matter that she loves her childhood friend Templeton. It wouldn't do for the princess to marry a mere captain-in-training. When Marylea enters the Realm unwittingly on her 18th birthday, Aragonians are torn. As their new Shaper - someone who can make things at will - she could prove helpful in the impending war. Yet she also threatens the independence Aragonia has so fiercely protected. When Aragonia starts falling apart, all blame falls to Marylea. After all, they were perfectly fine before she arrived. Buildings vanish overnight. Things go missing. Then people start evaporating, swishing away in the wind in the form of gold dust. Ashling must band with Marylea to find out how to stop this disaster. Their journey takes them through the darkest areas of the Realm, where they uncover deadly secrets about their world. Was Marylea's return doomed from the start?
