There was a hint of laughter in it, like the type of baritone laughter that people heard in their dreams right before something either really great or really horrible happened. The sort of voice that could convince the police he was innocent even with a dead body at his feet and a gun in his hands. Hell, he could confess and still he’d be set free. “I know how this must look.” He would say, brushing his bloodied fingers across the warm barrel of the gun. “Arrest me, go ahead. I promise I won’t resist.” If his face and speaking voice matched the one I’d made in my head, I would have let him go as well. Add another line and I probably would have taken the blame for the murder too." It's amazing how someone's view on the world can be changed by that one special someone. For Eve - or Bonnie or Lolita or whatever she chooses to go by that week - that someone is Adam. He is her savior. He is the one man who was ever able to break through her barbed walls and get ahold of her heart. He's loving, funny, smooth talking, anything it takes to make Eve putty in his hands. When he says he loves her, she believes him even after her black eye. When he goes down a path, she follows no matter how dark it is. When he asks her for something, there's no doubt she'll give it. As she crumbles further beneath him, the thought remains: Maybe some walls are better left guarded.
