Maria Celestina Gatmaitan tries to follow the social norms for women but breaks the rules whenever the opportunity arises. This leads to her near death experience where a certain Mariano saves her from an alleged tulisan.

As a reward, her father gives him the opportunity to earn a living: by being their house servant and one of her chaperones to keep her safe. A special friendship blossoms between the two despite their social differences--but little does she know that Mariano has a plan.
