Victoria flees from the protection Lord Niklaus's mansion offers and decides to make use of the surviving Shadows' power to track down Mordax Black. On the other side of the country, King Lunarian does all he can to prepare for an impending war with the Country of North. When the two events coincide, Victoria finally learns the reason for Mordax's treacherous behaviour over the last several years, and an unexpected change is made in the royalty of the Country of South.
